Description

Primary Purpose

Organize and implement instructional services to meet the needs of eligible students unable to attend school due to medical reasons.  Serve as a liaison between the student/parent and school.

 

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation

Knowledge of special education and Section 504/General Education Homebound meeting procedures

General knowledge of broad levels of development, instruction, and curriculum (birth-12th grade)

Effective written and verbal communication skills

 

Experience

Classroom teaching experience preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Provide instruction to homebound students per ARD or Section 504 committee.
  2. Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment to meet the individual needs of student.
  3. Collaborate with teachers, collecting and returning completed assignments.
  4. Study the prepared lessons assigned by the core teachers of record.
  5. Review assigned materials with students in preparation for tests.
  6. Collaborate with related service personnel, when needed.
  7. Implement recommended services/curriculum to the student.
  8. Monitor student’s progress, update IEP’s, and communicate effectively with campus staff regarding student performance and progress.
  9. Keep accurate attendance records and report attendance to the attendance clerk each week.
  10. Prepare needed documentation for ARD and Section 504/Homebound meetings.
  11. Attend ARD and Section 504/General Education Homebound meetings.
  12. Use of personal vehicle for itinerant services.
  13. Stay informed of the latest medical recommendations of the referring physician and communicate these recommendations to staff.
  14. Continue professional growth by participating in professional development opportunities.
  15. Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
  16. Display proficient levels of technology applications.
  17. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  18. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  19. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  20. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  21. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  22. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  23. Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.
    • Account for the accuracy and verification of all student program data and reports.
    • Implement data-driven decision making for improvement efforts based on best practices.
  24. Manage and utilize policy effectively for maintaining systemic processes and practices.
    • Account for the verification of the correct policy regarding all decisions and correspondence.
    • Implement effective policy-driven decision making.
  25. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Demand/Environmental Factors

Frequent district-wide travel; frequent standing, walking, carrying, bending, kneeling;  may require lifting students with physical disabilities; controlling student behavior through physical restraint; assisting non-ambulatory students; possible exposure to biological hazards.

 

Terms: 187 days or as assigned
