Primary Purpose 

Participate as a member of the Special Education Adult Transition Services Program and provide overall support and training to students with disabilities as they transition from the high school setting to their post-secondary setting. Work under general supervision of the coordinator of secondary special education and immediate direction of a certified special education teacher. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

 

Qualifications               

Education/Certification/Licensure               

High school diploma or GED

Educational Aide II Certification

48 college hours or passing score on Paraprofessional Exam

               

Special Knowledge/Skills               

Ability to work with children with disabilities               

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions               

Ability to communicate effectively               

Knowledge of general office equipment

 

Experience

Two years’ experience working with children

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Assist CCISD students with disabilities to become contributing members of the community through employment, education, training, independent life skills, and self-advocacy.
  2. Assist teacher by preparing instructional materials.
  3. Assist teacher in re-teaching IEP related goals and objectives.
  4. Assist teacher with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  5. Assist teacher in maintaining administrative records (data collection) and preparing required reports.
  6. Assist teacher in routine Adult Transition Program management duties.
  7. Assist in orientating students to their Adult Transition Program schedule and/or supervising/shadowing students in the community setting.
  8. Be aware of student’s various medical concerns, condition.
  9. Assist teacher in managing behavior of students.  This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
  10. Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  11. Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
  12. Assist supervising students throughout the in work-based settings.
  13. Maintain confidentiality.

  24. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  25. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  26. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  27. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.                                                                           

Working Conditions

Mental Demands               

Effective verbal communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.

               

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, and kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students, equipment, and materials. Needs reliable transportation to work across the district.

 

Terms: 210 days
