Primary Purpose

 

Provide students with hearing impairments with appropriate learning experiences designed to them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth; enable them to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Certification/Licensure

Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Education – Master’s Degree preferred

Texas certification in teaching the hearing impaired

Special Knowledge/Skills

Ability to use sign language, knowledge of Deaf culture and proficiency in total communication

Ability to work well with a variety of adults and children

Ability to be flexible and coordinate scheduling of services

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Knowledge and demonstrated competency in the subject(s) assigned

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to instruct students and manage behavior

Openness to change and innovation to meet the needs of all students

Experience

One to five years classroom teaching experience

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

 

  1. Guide the learning of students in accordance with the district’s and GBCDHH’s philosophy of education toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  2. Develop lesson plans and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students assigned, incorporating needed modifications based on abilities and learning styles, hear and language levels, and additional disabilities.
  3. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative guidelines.
  4. Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning and use results to plan and implement instruction.
  5. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
  6. Participate in ARD preparation and communication assessments to plan robust programs that meet student needs, including PLAAFPS, goals, objectives, accommodations, medications, and other applicable sections.
  7. Work cooperatively with the campus and district instructional supervisors, leaders, and department heads to improve instruction.
  8. Offer accelerated instruction to each student who meets any of the state “at risk” criteria for the student to perform satisfactorily on the state assessment.
  9. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to campus and district requirements.
  10. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  11. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteers.
  12. Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.
  13. Manage and utilize policy effectively for maintaining systemic processes and practices.
  14. Account for the verification of the correct policy regarding all decisions and correspondence
  15. Adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines regarding confidentiality.
  16. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with students, parents, and other staff members.
  17. Respond to parent phone calls/messages in a timely manner.
  18. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  19. Manage student behavior in accordance with the CCISD Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  20. Provide for care and protection of school property and be held accountable for books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  21. Maintain accurate student accounting and grading records in compliance with local and state requirements.
  22. Exhibit CCISD Core Values of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
  23. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.
  24. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality professional learning opportunities for personal growth.
  25. Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
  26. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
  27. Demonstrates proficient levels of technology applications.
  28. Participates fully in drills and safety exercises to provide for the safety and overall emotional wellbeing of students.
  29. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  30. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  31. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  32. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  33. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  34. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  35. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Working Conditions

Mental Demands

Ability to communicate effectively spoken/written English, maintain emotional control while working with students and adults; able to repair communication breakdowns; maintain confidentiality.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Repetitive hand motions; bending, stooping, walking, moving textbooks, media equipment, desks, and lifting to 40 pounds.
