Description

As a CCISD employee, you will have a primary purpose to:

 

Ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route; operate school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel to and from schools or other designated locations. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

 

Qualifications

Education/Certification/Licensure

  • Valid Texas Commercial driver’s license with passenger and school bus endorsement (If you do not have the proper driver's license, please apply for Bus Driver Academy Trainee.)
  • DPS School Bus Driver Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of student discipline procedure
  • Ability to manage student behavior
  • Ability to operate bus
  • Possess a good driving record
  • Ability to evacuate students in the event of an accident/emergency

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Responsible for the safe transportation of students to and from school.
  2. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for the operation of school buses.
  3. Reports to work at scheduled work time and follows District and department attendance policies and procedures.
  4. Ensure all paperwork including route folders are correct and up to date.
  5. Follow the assigned route and adhere to established schedules for necessary record keeping functions in conjunction with local and state reporting.
  6. Responsible for preventive care of their assigned bus.
  7. Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.
  8. Properly and safely use tools/chemicals/equipment.
  9. Comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) to assure student behavior and records are confidential.
  10. Maintain appropriate student management environment and report student incidents to appropriate administrators.
  11. Perform and provide an accurate and timely student count as required by TEA.
  12. Identify by name all students who ride the bus.
  13. Maintain up-to-date seating charts for all student riders and submit updated copies to supervisor.
  14. Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections before and after each run and submit work orders for needed repairs.
  15. Observe all loading/unloading laws and regulations.
  16. Demonstrate bus evacuation to students on bus.
  17. Be able to evacuate the bus from emergency exit safely and in a timely manner.
  18. Physically access and operate all emergency equipment and emergency exits, including front, rear and side emergency doors, roof hatches, and emergency windows.
  19. Special Education drivers must ensure that the proper safety equipment (Ex: tie-downs, seat belts, besi seats, wheelchairs, etc.) are onboard, in proper working condition, and utilized based on students’ needs.
  20. Must adhere to student IEP transportation requirements.
  21. Follow the established CCISD accident procedures and protocols; accurately complete all necessary reporting both verbally and written of vehicle damage, student injuries and mechanical failures.
  22. Communicate with schools, students and community in such a manner as to encourage cooperation and respect.
  23. Maintain proper and appropriate radio communication.

  25. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

  34. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  35. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  36. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  37. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.

Working Conditions       

Mental Demands

Ability to maintain emotional control under stress; ability to work around high noise levels and with frequent interruptions

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Moderate walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, reaching; heavy lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions; work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes; flexible hours. Evacuate students in the event of an accident/emergency.

 

Days in Contract:  183 scheduled workdays: year-round pay

 

Hours per day: 6.5 hours guaranteed per day

 

Hours per week: 32.5 hours guaranteed per week: extra shifts available (including mid-day routes, field trips, and summer school routes)

 

Anticipated Schedule: 6-9 AM & 1:30-5 PM
