Primary Purpose 

Assist the teacher in the academic development of students; assist in the preparation and organization of classroom activities. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

 

Qualifications

Education/Certification/Licensure

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Educational Aide II certification
  • 48 college hours or passing score on Paraprofessional Exam

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to use general office equipment
  • Possess common sense, patience, tolerance
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL)

Experience

  • Verifiable experience working with children (e.g., daycare, Sunday school, sports, girls/boy scouts)

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Assist the teacher with instruction including preparing instructional materials and working in small groups or with individual students.
  2. Support student specific communication needs according to the specifications in the students Individualized Education Plan.
  3. Reinforce appropriate behavior in accordance with classroom discipline expectations and behavior management as developed by the ARD committee, and school plan.
  4. Assist the teacher in maintaining administrative records and preparing required reports.
  5. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, inside classroom, in the lunchroom, and outside the classroom during arrival and dismissal.
  6. Assist with in-class support in the self-contained setting or the general education setting.
  7. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems, including behavior, of individual students.
  8. Administer to students with severe physical handicaps by lifting, feeding, cleaning, maintaining hygiene, and any other personal services that the student requires.
  9. Responsible for use of safe procedures of physical intervention with acting-out students.
  10. Assist in preparing, modifying, or adapting teaching materials or equipment to individual needs of students.
  11. Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  12. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as needed.
  13. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  14. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy

  22. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  23. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  24. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  25. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  26. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  27. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e., email, written, and verbal).
  28. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Standing for long periods of time, bending, stooping, walking, lifting, repetitive hand movements, supervision of outdoor playground activity which includes outside exposure to variable temperatures and humidity extremes while monitoring students.
