Primary Purpose

 

Clear Creek ISD counselors design and deliver school counseling programs that improve student outcomes. They lead, advocate, and collaborate to promote success for all stakeholders while following the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and contributing to Clear Creek ISD’s mission and strategic plan. This is accomplished through a variety of approaches including guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and system support

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Certification/Licensure

Master’s degree in counseling from an accredited college or university, preference, or Master’s degree with an approved certification from an EPP

Valid Texas counseling certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Program

Effective communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Strong organizational skills

Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate guidance curriculum

Demonstration of counseling and guidance leadership skills

Computer skills consistent with district expectations

Experience

Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience

High school counseling experience

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

 

Guidance Curriculum

  1. Develop, coordinate, and evaluate classroom guidance lessons by teaching the Texas Comprehensive School Counseling Program guidance curriculum components including Intrapersonal Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Personal Health and Safety, and Post-Secondary Education and Career Readiness.
  2. Collaborate with and provide assistance to other school staff members who may facilitate guidance curriculum.
  3. Follow district processes and procedures for guidance curriculum implementation as established by the Counseling and Student Services department.
  4. Attend district guidance curriculum updates provided by the Counseling and Student Services Department to effectively facilitate district-required guidance lessons, as determined by the campus.

 

Individual Planning

  1. Coordinator and support alpha counselors during one-on-one academic conferences in accordance with the CCISD Credit Verification Process.
  2. Implement and support the individual student planning component by guiding individuals, groups of students, and parents or guardians, through the development of educational, college, career, personal, or social plans.
  3. Ensure that the CCISD Credit Verification Process is being followed and oversee the maintenance of student documentation by alpha counselors to ensure graduation requirements are met for all students.
  4. Participate and evaluate information from the annual Senior Audit with all alpha counselors.
  5. Support alpha counselors when guiding students and parents/guardians with the college application process as needed. This may include writing letters of recommendation, and completing school reports, and mid-year reports in a timely manner.
  6. Provide individual college consultations with students and parents/guardians as needed.
  7. Coordinate, support, and communicate with students and parents regarding secondary courses, programs, and opportunities during the annual CCISD course selection process.
  8. Coordinate with intermediate campuses to ensure a successful transition which may include course selection presentations, course selection materials, and program application processes.
  9. Attend the annual course selection update provided by the Counseling and Student Services Department to effectively support the district course selection process.
  10. Coordinate Dual Credit parent informational sessions and campus Dual Credit enrollment process.
  11. Work with Dual Credit advisory at partner community colleges to ensure the success of Dual Credit students and programs.
  12. Work with campus administration to support college-related testing processes (i.e. SAT, PSAT, AP).
  13. Coordinate the National Merit Scholarship program including notification, applications, and recognition of scholars.
  14. Support alpha counselors in order to ensure all students have an up-to-date academic schedule that aligns with needed graduation requirements utilizing the current Student Management System.
  15. Support alpha counselors in order to ensure all students and parents/guardians are aware of the CCISD promotion standards and notify students and parents/guardians of opportunities for success in summer school.
  16. Work with administration to coordinate new to-district student enrollment process and forms for high school enrollment.
  17. Work with alpha counselors and registrars to ensure new CCISD students have school records evaluated in order to determine appropriate course placement and to create a credit evaluation for CCISD transcript creation.
  18. Consult on the evaluation of foreign transcripts, non-accredited schools, and home school transcripts.
  19. Facilitate the foreign exchange process on campus, including enrollment and implementation of the individual planning component of The Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, except for Clear View and Clear Horizon.
  20. Work with administrators to develop a system for counseling students with failing grades and implementing plans for success.
  21. Work with the Assistant Director and Director of Counseling and Student Services to coordinate district college and career readiness events including but not limited to CCISD Annual College and Career Fair, CCISD Clear to College Event, and CCISD Financial Aid Night
  22. Collaborate with teachers, students, and parents/guardians during the four-year planning process.
  23. Work with campus College and Career Specialists to coordinate visits from college admissions counselors, military recruiters, and other outside agencies.
  1. Coordinate grade-level informational sessions in order to provide parents/guardians with up-to-date information on graduation requirements and post-secondary opportunities.
  2. Follow district processes and procedures established by the Assessment and Evaluation Department for the administration of district Credit by Examinations (CBE).
  3. Serve as a member of the campus multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) in order to advocate for the needs of students.

 

Responsive Services

  1. Intervene on behalf of students whose immediate personal concerns or circumstances put their continued educational, personal, and social development at risk.
  2. Consult with campus staff and parents/guardians regarding students who need continuing support toward their educational, personal, and social development.
  3. Provide short-term skills-based individual counseling services to students.
  4. Identify and provide community resources for stakeholders as needed.
  5. Guide and support the campus during a critical incident while following the district’s critical incident response team protocol.
  6. Conduct Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale and the district’s Violence Risk Interview according to procedures established by the Counseling and Student Services Department.

 

 

 

System Support

  1. Ensure all counseling-related service interactions with students (i.e., guidance lessons, groups, parent conferences, consultations, and meetings) are entered into the district-approved tracking system.
  2. Utilize district-developed materials to train campus staff regarding Child Abuse, Trafficking, Maltreatment, Suicide Prevention, and Trauma-Informed/Sensitive Care.
  3. Assist other campus staff in making referrals to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
  4. Annually complete the district Comprehensive School Counseling Program document which highlights the manner in which your campus follows the four components of The Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and share it with counseling team members.
  5. Annually create and share with parents/guardians a campus-specific Comprehensive School Counseling Program document highlighting the four program components of The Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and all materials, including curriculum to be used during the year.
  6. Work with all stakeholders, including administrators, nurses, support specialists, other personnel, community volunteers, and agencies for the benefit of students.
  7. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality professional learning opportunities for personal growth.

 

Additional Responsibilities and Duties

  3. Collaborate and consult with all stakeholders to foster student educational, career, personal, and social development.
  4. Oversee, meet regularly, and support counseling team members including counseling support staff.
  5. Coordinate campus programs such as Senior Awards Night and Superintendent’s Scholars Program.
  6. Manage the counseling department budget.
  7. Ensure the completion of the school profile yearly and update all school profile information in Navianc
  8. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e., email, written, and verbal).
  9. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and campus goals.
  10. Ability to interpret and demonstrate knowledge of district and campus processes and procedures.
