Provide highly capable/gifted students with appropriate learning experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Primary Purpose for Science Liaison
Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Science Magnet Program, working closely with the Science Magnet Program staff, students, and parents to provide a positive learning environment and experience.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Gifted and Talented Endorsement/Certification (if wave magnet)
Special Knowledge/Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge and demonstrated competency in the subject(s) assigned
Working knowledge of computer software and multimedia tools
Leadership and problem solving skills
Embrace CCISD instructional philosophy and initiatives
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Display openness to change and innovation to meet the needs of all students
Experience
At least three years classroom experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Recruitment of students for the program
- Update the Magnet Program brochure.
- Schedule visits to all elementary campuses to present the Magnet Program.
- Develop and participate in the recruitment presentation to elementary students.
- Organize and implement a parent/student night.
- Coordinate the student selection process, including an application and screening committee.

Notify all students regarding the selection committee’s decisions.
Planning and implementation of special events
- Schedule and implement family nights and family field trips.
- Organize competitions.
- Lead Science Fair at the campus and district level (science magnet only).
- Schedule special guest speakers.
- Organize student field trips/mini-courses.
- Arrange research opportunities.
- Recruit community partners for the Magnet Program.
- Develop mentoring opportunities for students.
Model a positive instructional focus and concern for the success of all learners
- Guide the learning of students in accordance with the District’s philosophy of education toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
- Develop relationships and connections with campus staff and district support personnel Support administration in their role as instructional leaders.
- Provide feedback and support to teachers and administrators as they implement CCISD and campus initiatives.
- Work with the campus administrative team and campus teachers to enact positive instructional change.
- Remain current in content and instructional pedagogy and model life-long learning by: attending professional learning sessions, referencing current professional literature, participating in communities of practice, and engaging in personalized PL to support campus and district development.
- Consistently using district approved and preferred technology for campus work and meetings.

- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Maintain a professional and cordial relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
- Adhere to local, state and federal guidelines regarding confidentiality.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with students, parents and other staff members.
