Primary Purpose
- To be responsible for all aspects of scheduling and coordinating field trips for the district (PreK-12) during the school year as well as during the summer. The Field Trip Coordinator must also schedule buses/drivers required to transport athletic teams and all related auxiliaries.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas commercial driver’s license with passenger and school bus endorsements
- TEA school bus driver certification
- Must pass DPS physical examination annually

Experience
- Minimum of 4 years experience in school transportation
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform as school bus driver as needed.
- Assist in maintaining driving records for all employees driving district vehicles.
- Process all field trips for Pre-K-12 (including athletic teams and athletic related trips as well as Special Education field trips by scheduling, assigning and dispatching extracurricular trips.
- Must be proficient in using Easy Bus, the software used to electronically process field trip requests
- Must be capable of training sponsors/coaches/teachers in using the Easy Bus software to request buses for field trips.
- Assist the Payroll Clerk with billing and paying drivers for extracurricular trips.
- Assess the basic needs to accommodate each trip processed.
- Coordinate communication pertaining to field trips.
- Coordinate the posting of emergency trips for the district.
- Maintain a system of rotation that provides all eligible drivers an opportunity to drive extra trips.
- Maintain a field trip data base.
- Enter trips into computer on a daily basis.
- Prioritize the scheduling of trips so that as much advance notice as possible may be provided to drivers.
- Contact the person(s) requesting a field trip immediately if a scheduling problem arises.
- Oversee any driver needs for field trips.
- Make recommendations to the Director of any “cost savings” that might result from combining groups who are traveling to the same destination.
- Conduct a field trip in-service for drivers as needed.
- Tract emergency trips.
- Keep accurate records of all trips and drivers.
- Serve as the emergency contact person on weekends when drivers transport students.
- Knowledge of all Accident Response Procedures (e.g. dispatching police, ambulance, drug testing agency, notifying appropriate personnel; covering any remaining portion of the route; assisting in notifying parents of students on the bus).
- Substitute for regular or special education dispatcher if needed.
- Assist lead drivers and driver trainer as needed.
- Assist receptionist as needed.

- Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
