Description | Primary Purpose
- Assist librarian in providing leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the library is an integral part of the instructional program of the school.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- High school diploma or GED
- Educational Aide Certification (Aide I)
- 48 college hours or passing score on Paraprofessional Exam
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiar with the operation of a library
- Knowledge of the Dewey decimal system preferred
- Proficient in working with media computer technologies
- Ability to work well with children and adults
- Knowledge of general office equipment and computers
- Willingness to learn and use the library automation system for collection access, circulation, inventory, reports, etc.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of office/library work
- Some verifiable experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Perform needed clerical duties assigned by the librarian.
- Assist teachers and students in locating materials and books for assignments and research on the computer and shelves.
- Assist students and staff with information retrieval, computer card catalog, CD-ROM products, copier, locating printed material, and reference library.
- Aide in supervision and discipline of classes, study halls, and testing.
- Assist student aides and parent volunteers in their library duties.
- Reshelf or store software, books, equipment when it is returned.
- Assist staff with production equipment: poster printing, Merlin, style cards, and laminator
- Process all new library materials; enter data in computer, mark identification, label, and sort.
- Assist the librarian in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
- Prepare and send out overdue notices, collect fines, and prepare required reports.
- Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Assist librarian with displays, cataloging, and book repair.
- Participate in in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events.
- Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
- Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
- Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
- Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
- Display proficient levels of technology applications.
- Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
- Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
- Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
- Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
- Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
- Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
- Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
