Primary Purpose
- Assist and support the efficient operation of the Living Materials Center (LMC) in maintaining a safe, clean and efficiently running program.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- High school diploma or GED
- Educational Aide I certification
- 48 college hours or passing score on Paraprofessional Exam
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of general office procedures
- Efficient computer skills
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions
- Ability to work with different types of animals
Experience
- Some verifiable clerical and public relations experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Work with individual students or small groups to conduct instructional exercises, involving animal management.
- Reinforce appropriate behavior and assist in classroom discipline and behavior management.
- Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of animals and/or individual students.
- Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, inside classroom, in the lunchroom, and outside the classroom during arrival and dismissal.
- Provide clerical support to the LMC.
- Type reports, letters, forms; copy and distribute LMC communications.
- Sort and distribute mail.
- Attend and implement district training and requirements.
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
- Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
- Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
- Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
- Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
- Display proficient levels of technology applications.
- Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
- Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
- Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
- Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
- Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
- Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
- Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
