Primary Purpose
To enable the student receiving special education services to develop competencies and skills needed to function successfully on the job and in the community after completion of graduation requirements.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas certificate in the area of special education
Special Knowledge/Skills
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge and demonstrated competency in the subject(s) assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
Openness to change and innovation to meet the needs of all students
Knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations regarding:
Transition planning

Career and technical education
Employment, child labor, and wage and hour requirements
Workplace accommodations
Vocational rehabilitation
Experience
At least one year student teaching or approved internship
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional strategies to promote student growth
- Guide the learning of students in accordance with the district’s philosophy of education toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
- Identify/develop job opportunities, assist students with completion of applications, participate in job interviews, and provide job coaching according to individual needs.
- Maintain a regular schedule of direct involvement with students in the implementation of the student’s IEP, including progress toward postsecondary goals.
- Train students in appropriate work-related attitudes, habits, behavior, dress, and communication skills necessary to obtain and maintain employment.
- Evaluate student’s vocational skills and behavior to assist in determining work readiness, abilities, interests, and preferences.
- Provide opportunities for students to develop self-determination and self-advocacy skills.
- Monitor and document progress toward mastery of employment goals and objectives in the implementation of the IEP.
Communication
8. Disseminate information to parents and students on the purpose and expected outcomes of participation in work-based learning.
9. Involve parents in the development, implementation, and mastery of employment goals and objectives.
10. Ensure student’s work-based learning is aligned with the attainment of postsecondary goals.
11. Problem solve with stakeholder and the ARD committee regarding transportation to and from work.
12. Visit job sites on a regular basis.
13. Provide on-the-job supports/job coaching.
14. Collaborate with employers to provide learning opportunities for students.
15. Maintain and document ongoing contact with employers.
16. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
17. Maintain a professional and cordial relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
18. Adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines regarding confidentiality.
19. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with students, parents, and other staff members.
20. Respond to parent phone calls/messages in a timely manner.
Classroom management and organization
21. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
22. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
23. Manage student behavior in accordance with the CCISD Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
24. Provides for care and protection of school property and be held accountable for books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
25. Maintains accurate student accounting and grading records in compliance with local and state requirements.
26. Assists in upholding and implementing administrative regulations and board policy.
27. Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.
- Account for the accuracy and verification of all student program data and reports.
