Primary Purpose
Supervise and manage the Galveston-Brazoria Cooperative for Hearing Impaired (GBCHI) to provide services for all hearing impaired students from birth through 12th grade.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university
Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education from an accredited college or university (preferred)
Certification in Deaf Education (or willingness to pursue within one year)
Certification in Administration (Mid-management, Supervisor, or Principal)
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
Campus administrative experience (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and management skills
Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and data
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to coordinate district function
Understanding of the individual needs of special needs students
Ability to use sign language as a communication tool (or willingness to increase skills)
Knowledge of interpreter role and code of ethics
Ability to coordinate scheduling of services for all hearing impaired students
Ability to repair communication breakdowns
Experience
Minimum of 5 years successful experience teaching or working with deaf and hearing impaired students (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Recruit, interview, and recommend hiring of staff.
- Supervise and assess all staff working within the co-op.
- Foster collegiality and team building.
- Promote effective teaching strategies for the improvement of instruction.
- Facilitate on-going improvement of programs and services.
- Analyze and allocate fiscal resources.
- Practice positive school/community relations.
- Provide leadership in professional growth.
- Manage and supervise personnel effectively.
- Communicate effectively with staff, special education directors, and GBCHI management board.
- Maintain student, budget, and personnel files in accordance with federal, state, and district rules and regulations.
- Generate fiscal and administrative updates for GBCHI management board review.
- Coordinate and direct related services for GBCHI students.
- Prepare budget application, amendments, final reports, and provide expenditure control on established budgets.
- Monitor and revise GBCHI guidelines and procedures to meet regulations and student needs.
- Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
- Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
- Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
- Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
- Display proficient levels of technology applications.
- Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
- Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
