Primary Purpose

  • Be responsible for preparing appropriate quantities of food to meet menu requirements and maintain high standards of food production, sanitation, cash handling, and safety practices 

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid food manager’s certification permit or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment
  • Sanitation course completed before or during first year as Child Nutrition Worker II 

Special Knowledge/Skills

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to assist in managing personnel
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to read, write, and understand verbal instructions in English
  • Reading comprehension and basic math skills
  • Working knowledge of the kitchen equipment and food production 

Experience    

  • Minimum of one year successful experience in quantity food production or one year as a
  • Worker I in a school setting 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Maintain a valid food manager’s certificate.
  2. Prepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested, uniform recipes.
  3. Maintain proper storage and care of food items and supplies; maintain clean and organized storage.
  4. Maintain accurate reports of daily and monthly financial, productions, and activity records.
  5. Assist manager with team inventory.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of all cafeteria areas, including but not limited to cold prep, meat cook, cashiering, serving, and dishwashing.
  7. Meet all scheduled meal times, portions, and serve the food per policy and procedure.
  8. Act as cashier or back up cashier as instructed
  9.  Supervise and manage the campus child nutrition operation in the absence of the child nutrition manager.
  10. Demonstrate knowledge of and follow care and use of equipment.
  11. Maintain sanitary working condition to eliminate contamination.
  12. Ensure garbage collection is handled in a neat and sanitary fashion.
  13. Enforce standards of cleanliness, health, and safety
  14. Assist in recording food requisitions and request orders of necessary supplies.
  15. Assist manager in work order submission, tracking, and monthly preventative maintenance checklist.                
  16. Maintain professional appearance and hygiene.
  17. Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members.
  18. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
  19. Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
  20. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
  21. Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
  22. Display proficient levels of technology applications.
  23. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  24. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  25. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  26. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  27. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  28. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  29. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
