Primary Purpose
Coordinate the athletic program at assigned campus and its feeder schools.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills
Effective communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules
Ability to manage and coordinate district activities
Excellent organizational skills
Experience
Minimum of 5 years successful coaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Effective communication practices
- Schedule regular meetings of all coaches on each campus to discuss issues (e.g. maximum participation, off-season programs, scheduling, discipline, and goals).
- Be accessible on informal basis for meetings with individual coaches to resolve conflicts or concerns involving coaches within sports or between sports before major conflicts occur.
- Distribute information to all coaches from the director of athletics, campus principal, or supervisory source in a responsible and timely manner.
- Direct all questions and concerns from coaches on his/her respective campus to the athletic office and/or the campus principal.
Organization and coordination of information on each campus
5. Submit required reports, lists, and/or records to the director of athletics.
6. Distribute U.I.L. information to all coaches.
7. Maintain files on coaches’ certifications in C.P.R., C.O.P.E., first aid, and lightning training.
8. Maintain files necessary for eligibility forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
9. Verify that each head coach has students and parents sign Behavior Expectations and Rules sheets and maintains files.
Unity of the athletic program on each campus and feeder school
10. Create an atmosphere emphasizing equality of all sports.
11. Provide positive reinforcement and support for coaches and athletes in each sport.
12. Provide opportunities for collaborative interaction and support of coaches (e.g. scouting and working together at meets and tournaments).
Evaluation of campus athletic programs
13. Meet individually with each head coach prior to beginning of season regarding program evaluation standards and procedures.
14. Collect and summarize written evaluation reports from each head coach at end of respective seasons.
15. Prepare and complete a written evaluation report at end of year for the total athletic program.
16. Provide organizational means to ensure that each coach follows UIL, TEA, and district rules and regulations.
Coordination of feeder school athletic programs
17. Ensure that head coaches of each sport at high school level meet coaches at feeder schools to discuss program goals.
18. Inform feeder school principals of all coordination efforts.
19. Maintain high visibility and ensure visibility of all head coaches.
20. Ensure high school head coaches attend intermediate games and contests and maintain a log of attendance
21. Attend feeder school games and contests.
Public image of the total athletic program
22. Make presentations to professional and community groups as requested.
23. Participate in Booster Club activities.
24. Accept and support decisions made in the interest of the total athletic program.
Hiring and evaluating coaches at campus and feeder schools
25. Assist in the interviewing process of prospective applicants.
26. Provide input for performance evaluation of coaches.
27. Provide recommendations for coaches’ employment and/or termination at campus and feeder schools.

Additional Responsibilities
39. Submit to the director of athletics all athletic bus requests, travel requests, requisitions, official pay sheets, scouting sheets, payment sheets for coaches, and other forms for approval.
40. Sign all UIL forms as superintendent designee except Previous Participation Forms.
41. Approve and maintain record of all athletic schedules before the beginning of each season.
42. Coordinate all playoff meetings.
43. Provide campus with an eligibility calendar each year.
44. Assist the administrator in charge at all high profile games.
45. Attend all district executive committee meetings.
46. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
