Experience

  • Experience in custodial work or the willingness to learn

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include the following: sweep and dust all rooms and walls; spot mop floors and remove gum, marks, and spills; replace all furniture in proper order after cleaning; empty pencil sharpeners and wastebaskets and carry out all trash; clean the chalkboards, chalk trays, and erasers.
  2. Maintain a continuous program of care of hard surface floors, mopping, applying finish, and buffing.
  3. Clean and disinfect drinking fountains.
  4. Clean and disinfect restroom lavatories, commodes, urinals, walls and floors; fill all dispensers in restrooms.
  5. Clean windows, ledges, doors, light fixtures, and walls as needed.
  6. Maintain clean orderly closets and storerooms.
  7. Report maintenance problems to the Lead Custodian so repairs can be made.
  8. Work around any meetings or special activities that may be in session during work hours.
  9. Make certain that lights in rooms are out, doors locked, and building secure before clocking out.
  10. Clean custodial equipment after use.
  11. Work in any area of the building assigned; occasionally work with a crew to accomplish certain tasks during student holidays and student vacations, or when other custodians are not at work.
  12. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
  13. Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
  14. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  15. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  16. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  17. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  18. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  19. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  20. Perform other duties or accept other responsibilities as assigned.

  • Work on ladders; work alone
