Description

Primary Purpose:

Direct and manage the district program for counseling, guidance, and student personnel services; collaborate with district staff and outside personnel to provide for a safe and nurturing learning environment.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

Valid Texas public school counselor certification

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) preferred

Valid Texas principal certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge and experience with Texas high school graduation requirements

Ability to manage budgets and personnel

Ability to coordinate district functions

Ability to implement policy and procedures

Ability to interpret data

Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Experience

Minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience

Minimum of 3 years counseling experience in public school

Counseling and/or guidance counseling supervisory experience preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Counseling and Guidance

  1. Assist with identification and support of district strategic plan in daily activities.
  2. Plan and coordinate the counseling program and comprehensive development guidance curriculum for grades PK-12.
  3. Provide training for administrators and counselors in both the counselor evaluation process and other needed professional learning.    
  4. Serve as a second counselor appraiser for counselors at the campus principal’s request.
  5. Work with campuses, principals, and/or counselors to establish annual guidance and counseling goals.
  6. Evaluate the effectiveness of guidance and counseling programs at district and campus levels.
  7. Coordinate the district-wide College Night, Financial Aid Night, and other district wide events for students and parents.
  8. Coordinate registration timelines and procedures for intermediate schools and high schools.
  9. Model effective counseling practices.
  10. Serve as a resource to both campus counselors and administrators in designing, approving, and monitoring group counseling.
  11. Serve on the District Crisis Response Team and serve as district lead counselor for campus crisis situations.
  12. Support the implementation of district Core Values through the counseling program.
  13. Recommend and monitor a budget for the areas of responsibility.
  14. Build and/or maintain coalitions among respective community groups in support of the district strategic plan.
  15. Coordinate services of district contract psychologist.
  16. Supervise and oversee the dual credit and foreign exchange programs.
  17. Oversee district course numbers for intermediate and high schools  
  18. Oversee and support the Bay Area Alliance for Youth and Families CCISD.
  19. Supervise and support district nursing supervisor(s) and program.
  20. Facilitate the School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC).
  21. Supervise and evaluate the effectiveness of all aspects of the district prevention program.
  22. Oversee and support Communities in Schools (CIS) program.
  23. Recommend and monitor services and budget for the CIS program.
  24. Evaluate the effectiveness of the CIS program at the district level.
  25. Identify and encourage employees who possess leadership qualities and potential.
  26. Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.  
  27. Account for the accuracy and verification of all student program data and reports.  
  28. Implement data-driven decision making for improvement efforts based on best practices.  
  29. Manage and utilize policy effectively for maintaining systemic processes and practices.  
  30. Account for the verification of the correct policy regarding all decisions and correspondence.  
  31. Implement effective policy-driven decision making.    
  32. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
  33. Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
  34. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
  35. Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
  36. Display proficient levels of technology applications.
  37. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  38. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  39. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  40. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  41. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  42. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  43. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
