Description

Primary Purpose

To facilitate student academics and functional skills through consultation with teachers of students with disabilities.

 

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Texas special education certification with special education endorsement

Special Knowledge/Skills

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of subjects assigned

Knowledge of general education and FACES curriculum

Knowledge of classroom strategies and methods for the alternative academic setting

Ability to instruct students and utilize various behavior management techniques

Experience

Minimum of 3 years special education teaching experience  

           

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Provide consultation to district alternative academics classes.
  2. Provide consultation to campus staff working with students in AA classes.
  3. Assist in development of IEP’s.
  4. Monitor implementation of IEP’s for students who receive extended school year services.
  5. Assist in preparation for ARD meetings for students in AA classes.
  6. Provide consultation in ARD meetings as assigned by ESC special education staff.
  7. Provide coordination between sending and receiving campuses of transferring students.
  8. Provide demonstration lessons and modeling of individual instruction in the special education and general education classroom.
  9. Relieve assigned teacher to allow him/her to visit in other classrooms with successful practices.
  10. Develop appropriate teaching/learning strategies and classroom designs.
  11. Maintain a log of activities.
  12. Provide in-service training for campus staff.
  13. Provide required training to campus staff on time-out, restraint, and positive behavioral supports.
  14. Provide instructional support for teachers.
  15. Attend team leader/evaluation staff meetings.
  16. Assist campus staff with curriculum recommendations.
  17. Assist campus staff with SDAA and LDAA recommendations.
  18. Uphold federal and state guidelines, school board policies, and procedures.
  19. Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.
    • Account for the accuracy and verification of all student program data and reports.
    • Implement data-driven decision making for improvement efforts based on best

      practices.

            Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

            Constant in-district travel; moderate standing, walking, bending, lifting, carrying; flexible working hours to meet in-home parent training needs; work with frequent interruptions; use of personal vehicle for travel and transporting equipment (mileage reimbursed).
