Description

Primary Purpose

  • Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements; work under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Educational Aide II certification
  • 48 college hours or passing score on Paraprofessional Exam

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well with children and adults
  • Knowledge of general office equipment 

Experience

  • Verifiable experience working with children (e.g., daycare, Sunday school, sports, girl/boy scouts) 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Support and assist the teacher or teaching team with teaching duties, including working in small groups or with individual students to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
  2. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  3. Reinforce appropriate behavior in accordance with teacher’s plan and school plan and assist in classroom discipline and behavior management as developed by the ARD committee.
  4. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  5. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
  6. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  7. Assist in preparing, modifying, or adapting teaching materials or equipment to individual needs of students.
  8. Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  9. Assist the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports.
  10. Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed.
  11. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  12. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
  13. Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
  14. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
  15. Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
  16. Display proficient levels of technology applications.
  17. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  18. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  19. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  20. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  21. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  22. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  23. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned
