Description

Primary Purpose

  • Assist the Director of Maintenance and Operations: provide exemplary customer service; ensure quality installation, repair, and maintenance of all HVAC related equipment and systems; ensure proper indoor air quality in all district facilities.

Qualifications

Education/Certification/License

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Texas driver’s license and pass MVR driving record check – must meet eligibility requirements for CCISD motor vehicle insurance.
  • HVAC Class A license preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective computer skills including basic knowledge of district EMS software and district   work order system.
  • Able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair: DX split and packaged systems; air and water source heat pumps; air and water cooled chillers; hot and chilled water systems; low pressure heating and pool boilers; hydronic heating, cooling and pool circulation pumps; natatorium specific HVAC equipment.
  • Able to read extensive wiring diagrams.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic controls, ice machines, refrigerators and coolers
  • Extensive knowledge in the use of meters, gauges, hand tools and power tools.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years HVAC experience.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Respond to emergencies after hours, on weekends and holidays with little or no notice.
  2. Diagnose HVAC mechanical failures and scope of repair.
  3. Recommend and assist in scheduling repairs with contracted vendors when scope is beyond in-house capabilities.
  4. Be observant in buildings and report any safety hazards.
  5. Recommend supplies, equipment and parts for purchase
  6. Supervise HVAC personnel and effectively assign work orders.
  7. Assist Maintenance Coordinator evaluate HVAC personnel.
  8. Schedule and participate in HVAC preventive maintenance program.
  9. Maintain constant communication with Maintenance Coordinator regarding HVAC equipment and systems failures.
  10. Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
  11. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
  12. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district and department goals.
  13. Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
  14. Display proficient levels of technology applications.
  15. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  16. Maintain a controlled environment on a routine basis.
  17. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  18. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  19. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  20. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  21. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communications (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  22. Perform other duties and accept responsibilities as assigned.

Equipment Used

  • Including but not limited to all types of HVAC hand tools, diagnostic instruments and equipment manufacturer’s software
  • Use of large A-frame step ladders and extension ladders up to 30’
  • Use of hydraulic scissor lifts, Gantry/chain hoists and lift gates
  • Use of sheet metal brakes and cutters

  • Strenuous walking, standing and/or climbing
  • Heavy lifting 20-80 lbs.
  • Inside and outside exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures
  • Exposure to dust, toxic chemicals and materials
  • Exposure to slippery and/or uneven walking surfaces
  • Working on ladders
  • Working in an energized high voltage environment
