Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience in social media and web content management.
Computer proficiency at an intermediate level in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web application software and proficiencies and ease in learning new programs
Basic photography experience required.
Excellent judgment and decision-making skills, capacity to recognize when immediate action is required and when additional information is needed
Ability to work independently, manage multiple and competing deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and creatively solve problems and resolve conflicts
Bilingual Preferred
Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in working in print communications, electronic communications, and broadcast communications.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Research, write, edit, proofread, and produce internal and external communication materials, including press releases, feature stories, e-newsletters, brochures, reports, video scripts, web site content, letters, social media content, and special publications for distribution that align with District and departmental goals.
- Collaborate with department leaders, staff, and District communications team members to plan, develop, and implement department communication strategies that strengthen the department’s communication.
- Take photographs for the web, for digital mediums, for print publications, and for presentations.
- Assist in providing media management during department related emergency and/or crisis situations and escorting media on campuses when necessary.
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing department events and recognitions aligned with the District’s recognition expectations program.
- Collaborate with team members to determine the most effective way to reach target audience.
- Deploy initiatives that contribute to the successful fulfillment of communications plans.
- Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth
- Research district policy, precedent and current practices prior to taking action
- Participate as an effective team member who contributes to the district, department, and content goals.
