Description

Primary Purpose

  • Facilitate the efficient operation of employee benefits office, interface with all benefit providers, and administer benefits for all eligible CCISD employees.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • High School Diploma/GED        

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer software to create and maintain files and databases
  • Knowledge of benefits laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping/accounting
  • Knowledge of payroll and personnel procedures
  • Ability to be tactful and empathetic with employees
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality     
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision   

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years general office experience required
  • Minimum of 2 years of strong health benefits or workers compensation experience preferred           

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Serve as contact for district employees regarding Cafeteria Plan regulations, COBRA, HIPAA, and worker’s compensation.
  2. Respond to inquiries from employees on various aspects of district’s medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and cancer plans.
  3. Track employee benefit elections.
  4. Calculate deduction amounts and enter them on to employees’ payroll records.
  5. Maintain and update eligibility database, including effective, change, and termination dates, as well as life insurance and disability insurance amounts.
  6. Notify COBRA vendor of employees needing initial COBRA notice and employees needing COBRA qualifying event letters.
  7. Produce Certificates of Coverage as needed.
  8. Process and correct eligibility error reports and any other audit reports that reveal discrepancies.
  9. Work with insurance companies to troubleshoot and resolve issues and complaints by employees.
  10. Reconcile list bills as needed.
  11. Present benefit information at new hire orientation meetings.
  12. Assist Human Resources with job fairs as necessary
  13. Be knowledgeable about the attributes of the District’s benefits programs, as well as policies and regulations pertaining to those programs.
  14. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
  15. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
  16. Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
  17. Display proficient levels of technology applications.
  18. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  19. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  20. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  21. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  22. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  23. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  24. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
