Primary Purpose

  • Maintain the physical plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of building can be obtained.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Texas driver’s license and pass MVR driving record check - must meet eligibility
  • requirements for CCISD motor vehicle insurance
  • CDL license desired

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to understand and work from written and oral instructions
  • Skills to perform repairs on cabinets, sheetrock, floor, ceiling, playground fences
  • Ability to use all tools common to various trades

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a carpenter or such alternatives as may be appropriate

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Make minor repairs in all trade areas.
  2. Recognize when a specific trade is needed to solve a problem.
  3. Perform preventative maintenance when needed.
  4. Perform general carpentry and refinishing (interior/exterior).
  5. Perform repair or new work as required.
  6. Perform minor electric work- light ballast, switch etc.
  7. Understand and work from written instructions.
  8. Understand and work from oral instructions.
  9. Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase.
  10. Available to work different schedules or shifts to accomplish tasks.
  11. Available for after-hours demands.
  12. Responsible for safety check and repairs to all district playground equipment.
  13. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
  14. Perform tasks in dusty, cramped, and hard to reach locations.
  15. Climb ladders, lift and carry up to 80 pounds for a distance of up to 100 feet.
  16. Work in positions including bending 10%, twisting 10%, extended reach above the head 30%, extended reach in front of the body 10%, and walking 40%.
  17. Use with proficiency all tools common to various trades.
  18. Operate school district vehicle safely for up to 100 miles daily.
  19. Understand and apply all written and oral safety instructions.
  20. Wear protective equipment when performing any task that could cause injury or illness.
  21. Report any condition that could cause illness or injury.
  22. Adhere to all guidelines set forth on Material Safety Data Sheets when handling chemicals.
  23. Operate power equipment according to MFG and safety guidelines.
  24. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
  25. Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
  26. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
  27. Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
  28. Display proficient levels of technology applications.
  29. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  30. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  31. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  32. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  33. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  34. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  35. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
