Primary Purpose
- Assist the district behavior specialist in implementing, monitoring, and collecting data on written general education behavior plans. Provide direct support for students in the classroom.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- High School diploma or GED
- Educational Aide II certification
- 48 college hours or passing score on Paraprofessional Exam
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Effective communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Minimum of 8 hours training in physical restraint and crises intervention
- Objective data communication
- Knowledge and experience in handling challenging situations
Experience
- Verifiable experience working with children
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicate with behavior specialist about behavior support plan.
- Attend weekly behavior trainings
- Collect data on intervention plan.
- Model interventions for classroom teacher.
- Model and practice social skills lessons with student.
- Practice self-regulation techniques with student.
- Monitor students in a variety of school settings to provide a safe environment for all students.
- Maintain student confidentiality at all times.
- Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality professional learning opportunities for personal growth.
- Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
- Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and campus goals.
- Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
- Display proficient levels of technology applications.
- Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
- Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings
- Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
- Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
- Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the district and department are met.
- Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
- Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
