Description | Primary Purpose
- Provide initial contact with public concerning inquiries, general information, or problems directing individuals to the proper authority for further handling. Dispatching all drivers for morning, mid-day, and afternoon bus routes; assist and dispatch all extracurricular trips; and maintain accurate dispatch records.
Qualifications
Education/Certification/Licensure
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Texas commercial driver’s license with passenger and school bus endorsements
- DPS School Bus Driver Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills

- Good telephone and 2-way radio communication skills
- Proficient computer and typing skills
- Ability to receive and give verbal instructions effectively

- Demonstrated ability to enter and exit rear emergency door of bus
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years general office experience
- Must have experience or knowledge of dispatching
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in school transportation
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide initial personal contact with everyone telephoning or entering the office.
- Perform the usual office routines and practices associated with a productive office.
- Assist patrons when calling in for route information.
- Maintain accurate dispatch records regarding routes, buses and drivers.
- Maintain log on all two-way radio transmissions and telephone calls received.
- Communicate with shop foreman regarding changes in routes, buses, and drivers.
- Responsible for notifying drivers, parents, and school personnel of any changes in a student’s bus service such as address change, pickup and/or drop-off locations and time or any bus change.
- Instruct and counsel bus drivers concerning any problems or concerns with students, parents, teachers, co-workers and patrons.
- Perform as a relief bus driver when necessary.
- Remain informed of accident response procedures, e.g., dispatch police, ambulance, drug testing agency, notify appropriate personnel and school(s); cover any remaining portion of the route; assist in notifying parents of all students on the bus; assist at the accident scene if necessary.
- Verify extracurricular trips with teachers and coaches.
- Assist trip coordinator with processing extracurricular trip tickets for payroll and reports.
- Calculate trip invoices for payment and bill appropriate offices.
- Assist lead drivers, secretary, and dispatchers with filing when necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
