Primary Purpose

Assist the teacher in the instruction of students including those with identified disabilities. Assist in the preparation and organization of curriculum and classroom activities. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification/Licensure

High school diploma or GED

Educational Aide II Certification

48 college hours or passing score on Paraprofessional Exam

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to use good judgment

Ability to understand and comply with established procedures

Ability to work well with children and adults

Knowledge of ABA strategies

Bilingual Spanish aides must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in Spanish and English

 

Experience

Some verifiable experience working with children preferred (e.g. daycare, Sunday school, sports, girl/boy scouts)

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Assist the teacher with instruction including preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  2. Assist teachers in guiding individual students or groups of students in daily activities and instructional exercises assigned by the teacher including personal hygiene, appropriate dress, eating habits, appropriate behavior etc.
  3. Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, inside classroom, in the lunchroom, and outside the classroom during arrival and dismissal.
  4. Assist the teacher in maintaining administrative records and preparing required reports.
  5. Administer to students with severe physical handicaps by lifting, feeding, cleaning, maintaining hygiene, and any other personal services that the student requires.
  6. Responsible for use of safe procedures of physical intervention with acting-out students.
  7. Implement individualized provision of positive and negative reinforcement for student behaviors.
  8. Reinforce appropriate behavior in accordance with teacher’s plans and assist in classroom discipline and behavior management as developed by the ARD committee, and school plan.
  9. Participate in in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed.
  10. Supervise small groups of students in community settings.
  11. Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  12. Contribute to a positive school climate through use of praise and encouragement.
  13. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  14. Organize, clean, disinfect and maintain equipment and supplies.
  15. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.

  17. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

  23. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  24. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
  25. Meet task completion deadlines established by supervisor.
  26. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  27. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  28. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  29. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
