Primary Purpose

Assist the teacher in the preparation and management of classroom activities by providing support with life skills development and behavior interventions of identified students with disabilities. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

 

Qualifications

Education/Certification/Licensure

High school diploma or GED

Educational Aide II certification

48 college hours or passing score on Paraprofessional Exam

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

Ability to work well with children

Patience, tolerance, and flexibility

Positive and productive communication and interpersonal skills

General knowledge of objective data collection and interpretation

Basic computer skills

Ability to incorporate behavior principles in positive, proactive, and instructional ways

Knowledge of district physical restraint and crisis intervention plan

 

Experience

Verifiable experience working with children (e.g., sports, girl/boy scouts)

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Support and assist teachers with teaching duties, including attendance records, and preparing instructional materials.
  2. Attend professional learning opportunities as assigned (e.g., Crisis Prevention Intervention).
  3. Assist Staff with student specific discipline and behavior management as developed by the ARD committee and school/district plan.
  4. Assist teachers in guiding/supervising students in daily activities, including personal hygiene, appropriate dress, eating habits, appropriate behavior, etc. in the school setting as well as in the community.
  5. Contribute to a positive school climate through use of praise, encouragement, and example.
  6. Administer to students with severe physical handicaps, lifting, feeding, cleaning, maintaining hygiene, and taking care of any other personal services that the student requires.
  7. Clean, disinfect, and maintain equipment and supplies.
  8. Assist campus staff in collecting and interpreting individual student data.
  9. Responsible for correctly implementing crisis prevention and intervention strategies.
  10. Implement individualized provision of positive and negative reinforcements for student behaviors.
  11. Maintain student/staff confidentiality at all times.
  12. Assist with student transitions.
  13. Model instructional and behavior strategies with individual students.
  14. Maintain log of activities.
  15. Assist with professional learning opportunities, as assigned.
  16. Assist staff in implementing data-driven decision making for improvement efforts based on best practices.

  29. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  30. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Frequent district-wide travel; moderate to heavy walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting; riding school bus for community instructions, exposure to chemicals for cleaning.  Use of personal vehicle for daily duties and transporting equipment (mileage between campuses reimbursed)
