Primary Purpose

 

To interpret for deaf and hard of hearing student pre-K through 12th grade, to assist the deaf education teacher in academic development of those students and to assist in the preparation and organization of classroom activities. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

Major Responsibilities and Duties 

  1. Maintain and submit a schedule to GBCDHH Director.
  2. Complete all necessary paperwork concerning payroll, attendance, etc. in a timely fashion according to Clear Creek ISD policies and procedures.
  3. Interpret/transliterate according to the specifications of the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  4. Become and remain well-versed in course material in order to demonstrate competency in the interpreting/or transliterating process.
  5. Assist in providing general supervision of deaf students in all settings.
  6. Reinforce appropriate behavior in accordance with classroom discipline and behavior management techniques, using therapeutic holding and other management techniques.
  7. Assist with in-class support in either the self-contained deaf education setting or the general education setting (i.e. small group instruction, individual tutoring, reading aloud (sign) or as requested by the teacher in the classroom). 
  8. Be informed, monitor and report to the deaf education tracking teacher when concerns arise about the student’s accommodations/modifications approved by the Admissions Review and Dismissal committee (ARD). 
  9. Assist the deaf education teacher with clerical duties, hearing aid checks, etc.
  10. Interact in a professional manner with administrators, teachers, staff, students, visitors or other individuals and participate as an effective team member.
  11. Work collaboratively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met. 
  12. Demonstrate flexibility when role shifts take place (i.e. in-class support vs. interpreting in self-contained deaf education setting or in-class support in the general education setting).
  13. Demonstrate professionalism in all ethical areas, especially in applying the Interpreter Code of Ethics to the educational setting as well as all communication.
