Primary Purpose

Librarian creates a dynamic program establishing the library as a central element of the school, positively impacting student achievement, learning, literacy, and school culture. The librarian supports best instructional practices and curriculum standards through the integration of resources and opportunities.

 

Qualifications

Education/Certification

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

Texas teaching certificate

Valid Texas school librarian certificate or learning resources certificate or endorsement

Special Knowledge/Skills

Effective communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Proficient in working with media/computer technologies

Strong organizational skills

Experience

Minimum of 5 years experience teaching in a public school setting preferred

 

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Information Literacy: The librarian offers information literacy instruction that enables stakeholders to efficiently locate, accurately evaluate, ethically use, and clearly communicate information in various formats.

 

  1. Inquiry: The librarian provides access to information and programs for inquiry-based learning as well as support for both student and professional learning.

 

  1. Reading: The librarian promotes reading as an essential skill for learning, personal growth, and enjoyment.

 

 

  1. Digital Learning: The librarian provides equitable access to curated and open access information, technology, and media. 

 

  1. Environment: The librarian creates an essential, safe, inclusive, and flexible environment.

 

 

  1. Leadership: The librarian incorporates leadership activities, best practices, and professional learning across campus, district, and professional communities, and advocates for stakeholders.

 

 

  1. Metrics: The librarian utilizes metrics of measurability involving services to students and teachers to align the library program with campus and district goals.

  1. Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality staff development opportunities for personal growth.
  2. Research district policy, precedent, and current practices prior to taking action.
  3. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.

  5. Display proficient levels of technology applications.
  6. Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  7. Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
