Primary Purpose

Provide direct support to students with visual impairments in the area of vision instruction and communication as specified by the  student’s individualized Education Plan and work under the direction and supervision of the Vision Teacher. This support may occur face to face or virtually. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

Qualifications

Education/Certification/Licensure

 

Highs school diploma or GED Educational Aide Certification III

Completion of two-year program of studies in the Intervener for Deaf-Blindness Persons (preferred)

Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of students with sensory impairments

Willingness to participate in on-going training in the area of visual impairments

Ability to use sign language for communication purpose (preferred)

Training in the area of behavior management strategies

Willingness to assist with vision instructional strategies

Experience

One year of experience working with students with sensory impairments 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Assist with implementation of the student’s IEP including modifications, accommodations and instructional techniques.
  2. Provide on-going direct support to students through-out the school day as indicated by the IEP
  3. Become proficient in student’s individual communication methods and strategies.
  4. Assist with vision instruction for student and create instructional materials as needed.
  5. Assist with communication during orientation and mobility instruction.
  6. Accompany and support student during community-based instruction as needed.
  7. Maintain communication between home and school and with the classroom teacher.
  8. Participate in ARD meetings and student staffing.
  9. Participate in the assessment of the student and in the preparation of IEPs, progress reports, behavior plans, data collection, and other documentation for program
  10. Participate in district, regional, and statewide training in the area of visual impairments.
  11. Serves as a resource to other staff on issues related to visual impairments.
  12. Complete all necessary paperwork concerning payroll, attendance, in a timely fashion according to Clear Creek ISD policies and procedures.
  13. Interact in a professional manner with administrators, teachers, staff, students, visitors or other individuals and participate as an effective team member.

  24. Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
  25. Work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that the goals of the school/department are met.
  26. Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
  27. Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.

Working Conditions

Mental Demands

Ability to communicate effectively spoken/written English, maintain emotional control while working with students and adults; able to repair communication breakdowns; maintain confidentiality

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Repetitive hand motions; hearing and speech; visual activity; bending, stooping, walking, lifting to 40 pounds.

May include work from home or location other than school building; internet access, phone; prolonged sitting; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists
