Primary Purpose

 

Assist the Director of Transportation in directing and managing the district’s transportation and vehicle maintenance program; oversee maintenance of all district-owned vehicles; ensure safe and efficient operation of the transportation department’s fleet. Actively engage in actions that contribute to the overall mission and strategic plan of Clear Creek ISD.

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Certification/Licensure

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or extended supervisory experience preferred

Valid Texas commercial driver’s license with school bus and passenger endorsements or ability to obtain within 6 months of date of hire.

School Bus Driver Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Well-developed written and verbal skills

Computer literacy, preferably in word processing and spreadsheets

Knowledge of legal issues of interviewing, hiring, performance evaluation, discipline and termination preferred

Ability to manage budget and personnel

Strong organizational skills

Experience

Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in transportation fleet operations, preferably with public school districts

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

 

  1. Ensure that fleet services (purchasing, repair, preventive maintenance, and disposal) are planned and managed in support of the overall student transportation functions of the district.
  2. Maximize the use of technology to ensure the successful operation of fleet services.
  3. Make personnel duty assignments within designated area of departmental responsibility.
  4. Evaluate and track the productivity of department utilizing an electronic work order system.
  5. Assist Director in developing long-term goals and strategies for effective fleet maintenance, repair, cost-tracking, specifications, purchase, and retirement.
  6. Direct and evaluate the preventive maintenance activities for district fleet.
  7. Oversee all vehicle warranty claims and recall notices.
  8. Oversee required compliance records for all district fleet.
  9. Responsible for managing the district inventory for fleet, tools, parts, and supplies.
  10. Oversee the purchase of contract services necessary for the operation of the maintenance shop and repairs.
  11. Evaluate conditions with respect to safety of the building, facility, and grounds and make recommendations for correction as necessary.
  12. Ensure compliance with department procedures, district policies, state regulations and other laws, rules and regulations related to transportation of students.
  13. Prepares specifications for equipment and supplies, review bids and recommend appropriate purchases.
  14. Monitor the purchase of school transportation vehicles, tires, gasoline, oil, and automotive parts.
  15. Assist in the preparation of the department’s budget and monitoring of expenditures.
  16. Recommend disposal of obsolete or worn-out vehicles and equipment; recommend purchase of vehicles as necessary.
  17. Initiate purchases and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policy.
  18. Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; participate in interviewing, selecting, and assigning work to personnel.
  19. Evaluate employee job performances to ensure effectiveness.
  20. Assist with gathering information in investigations of school bus accidents and student safety violations.
  21. Ensure that transportation equipment is in excellent operating condition.
  22. Pursue and prepare submissions for transportation related grant opportunities.
  23. Assist with disaster duty as needed (hurricanes, etc.)
  24. Respond to school bus collisions as necessary.
  25. Respond to after-hours-emergency calls as needed, operate buses to transport students as needed and deliver buses to drivers when breakdowns occur.
